At the same time we wish to honour those who contributed in so many ways to D-Day, so at 11am there will be a brief service led by the Methodist Minister the Reverend Roger smith to give time to reflect and remember.

"We would love it if people dressed up in 1940s costume to add to the atmosphere of the day. The wardrobe departments of local amateur theatres Ilkley Playhouse and Bingley Little Theatre have many 1940s costumes for hire (contact at ilkleycostumes@hotmail.com or info@bingleyartscentre.co.uk). The History Bunker in Leeds (info@thehistorybunker.co.uk) is a leading supplier of military uniforms.”

On the anniversary itself, Thursday , June 6, a service of remembrance will be held at 11am at the Memorial Gardens on Eastgate to mark 80 years since the invasion that began the liberation of Europe. All are welcome to attend to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom.
