Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday 21st April is the tense Irish family drama God's Creatures (8pm, Ilkley Playhouse).

In the setting of a remote fishing village Aileen is torn between her sense of right and wrong and her desire to protect her beloved son Brian, newly returned from Australia, when he is accused of a serious crime. A lie that she tells threatens to tear apart her family and her close-knit community.

Aileen is played by Emily Watson, who has produced a long string of fine performances since her 1996 film debut in Breaking The Waves, and Brian is played by Paul Mescal, one of the “hottest properties” in British cinema today. Audiences at the Film Society have seen him already this season in Aftersun. The film has not one but two women directors, the Americans Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer who, after working on a number of films in photography and editing respectively, were making their debut as a directing team.

Guests are welcome, as always, but should email Richard Smith at richardgsmith@gmail.com or at the Film Society website to ensure admission.
