LOCAL charity Wildlife Friendly Otley have produced a new leaflet highlighting the amazing wildlife to be discovered in and around Otley.
Produced with the help of a grant from Otley Town Council, this leaflet is an amazing little guide, with a fold open map to help people locate different hotspots for wildlife.
Copies of the guide are freely available at many outlets around town including the library, shops, cafes and pubs. It can also be downloaded from the group's website www.wildlfifefriendlyotley.org.uk.
It highlights Otley Chevin Forest, which is a designated Local Nature Reserve, Gallows Hill Nature Area, the river Wharfe, Wharfemeadows Park and other public spaces around Otley.
The idea is to spread the word as far and wide as possible, with a view to bring more people to the town to enjoy and appreciate the wildlife. This would clearly benefit many local businesses. Also, more exposure for the charity will ultimately help in its aim to protect and help the local wildlife.
The patron of Wildlife Friendly Otley, Dr George McGavin, said: “Everyone should love the wildlife where they live. Are we going to love it or lose it? By being wildlife friendly, you can ensure the long-term health of your natural environment and your community. This excellent guide shows where to see and enjoy local wildlife.”
Trustee for the Charity, Rob Tindall, added: "If we can get more people to appreciate the local wildlife, and how important it is to preserve and establish new habitats for it to thrive in, then we are clearly going to be succeeding in our aims. We have an excellent opportunity to make this town, and the areas surrounding it, an inspiration to others on how wildlife can be given the place it deserves and needs."
The charity is always looking for more volunteers and support so if you can help in anyway then feel free to contact us via email at wildlifefriendlyotley@gmail.com.
