PINSUTI Chamber Choir are singing in the wonderfully refurbished concert hall at Skipton Town Hall on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
A spokesperson said: "The programme opens with the ethereal “Miserere” by Allegri. This is followed by two further sacred works: Vaughan Williams’ haunting “Mass in G Minor” for double chorus and soloists, and a work by the mass’s dedicatee - Gustav Holst’s “Nunc Dimittis”, written for eight-part choir, largely in renaissance style.
"This festival of Vaughan Williams’ music continues with his impressionistic “Three Shakespeare Songs”, colourful settings of texts from “The Tempest” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. “Silence and Music” is Vaughan Williams’ evocative setting of the poem written by Ursula Wood, his second wife.
"Two beautiful, short sacred works follow: Paul Mealor’s motet “Locus iste” and Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson’s simple Icelandic hymn, “Heyr, himna smiður”, before returning to Vaughan Williams with his celebration of English sea-faring and rural life - “Five English Folk Songs”. Do come and enjoy this wealth of melody with us!"
