THE UK's top canine first aider and her celebrity dog are heading to Otley to teach people how to become a canine lifesaver.

Rachel Bean, who has appeared on TV and radio sharing the all-important skills, is visiting the Confident Canine Coaching Academy at the Acrecliffe Equestrian Centre on February 16 to teach a qualification in Canine First Aid.

And the next day (February 17) Rachel will also be at the academy giving a demonstration as part of Dog Owner's Day.

On the day Rachel will teach the Ofqual regulated iPET Network Level 3 qualification in Canine First Aid.

Anyone can attend the sessions, and you do not have to sit the qualification if you would rather just watch the training.

Speaking about the importance of canine first aid, Rachel said: "With more dogs in the UK than ever before, it is vital that as many people as possible know what to do in an emergency.

"The course is great for pet professionals, but responsible dog owners also like to come along and I have heard from many people after sessions saying they later went on to save their dog's life."

Rachel is a Qualified Veterinary Nurse, and also runs the Vet on Set business, which provides guidance and support when animals appear on TV and film sets.

On hand to assist Rachel at the classes will be Chilli the Labrador, who is famous for starring as Linda Biscuits on the recent series of Joe Lycett Live on Channel 4.

Rachel has appeared on TV herself, giving a first aid demonstration as part of Crufts coverage, and regularly shares her tips in the media as a columnist and commentator.

She added: "We really hope that dog lovers will come out and join the session, as these skills really do save lives.

"From what to do when a dog starts choking, to treating a wound, it is so important to act calmly and quickly, and we will teach you all you need to know.

"Chilli is an amazing sidekick at my events, and acts out different scenarios. Don't worry, she hasn't let her recent fame as Linda Biscuits go to her head."
