A NOTICE of Poll has been published providing details of the questions to be asked at the Ilkley Parish Poll on a proposed town-wide 20mph scheme, along with list of polling stations where electors can attend and vote.
The demand for a Parish Poll on the proposed scheme was made at an extraordinary meeting of Ilkley electors on Tuesday, October 3 under The Local Government Act 1972.
Now Electoral Services at Bradford Council have confirmed that the Parish Poll has been scheduled for Monday, October 23, 2023. The hours of the poll are 4pm to 9pm.
The following six questions were proposed and agreed:
Suzanne Stoker, of Ben Rhydding proposed the question: Do you want a combined town wide 20mph zone with road humps?
Robert Whitemore, of Ilkley, proposed: Do you want a town wide 20mph speed limit?
Elaine Toms, of Ilkley, proposed: Do you support having town wide road humps?
Catherine Douglas, of Ilkley proposed: Are you in favour of targeted 20mph zones? and Are you in favour of targeted road humps?
Kyle Green, of Ilkley proposed: Do you support Ilkley Town Council spending £87,500 on the proposed scheme?
There is one polling station for each of the five wards in Ilkley, and electors can only vote at the polling station in the ward they live in. Electors will be notified of which polling station to use in the letter from the Returning Officer.
The location of the polling stations are:
Winter Gardens, Station Road, Ilkley, LS29 8HB (for electors living in the ward polling districts 14A-1 to 14A-3433).
Ilkley Rugby Club, 2 Denton Road, Ilkley, LS29 0AA (for electors living in the ward polling districts 14B-1 to 14B-2147).
First Ben Rhydding Scout Group HQ, Wheatley Lane, Ben Rhydding, LS29 BET (for electors living in ward polling districts14C-1 to 14C-1975).
The King's Hall, Station Road, Ilkley, LS29 8HB (for electors living in the ward polling districts14D-1 to 14D-2448).
St John's Church Hall, Bolling Road, Ben Rhydding, LS29 8PN, for electors living in the ward polling districts 14E-1 to 14E-2055.
A spokesperson for Ilkley Town Council said: "Electoral Services have advised that the Returning Officer will be issuing a letter to all electors with details of the arrangements for polling this will include polling station information."
A Bradford Council spokesperson added: "Ilkley Parish Poll has been scheduled for Monday 23 October 2023. The parish poll is arranged in accordance with The Parish and Community Meetings (Polls) Rules 1987 with the cost of the poll borne by Ilkley Town Council. Those rules do not provide for Poll Cards, Postal Voting, or Proxy voting, and specify different polling hours to other elections. Voting is in person only between the hours of 4pm and 9pm."
The Bradford Council spokesperson confirmed a letter will be issued to electors this week to inform them of the poll and polling arrangements.
They added: "A Notice of Poll is to be published on Monday 9 October which will provide details of the questions to be asked at the poll along with list of polling stations where electors can attend and vote at the poll."
The Notice of Poll was printed and published by the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, City Hall, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD1 1HY on Monday, October 9.
