AT Addingham Civic Society’s recent summer party its former chairman, Jim Robinson, was presented with this year’s Civic Pride Award.

This was in recognition of his great contribution to the life of Addingham and the Society during his 13 years in office. Jim was passionate about overseeing new initiatives, developing a large and supportive membership and working closely with the trustees and many other organisations. To name just a few examples of his achievements, he oversaw the development of the Blue Plaque Trail, the building of the Pétanquè Court and, in liaison with Addingham Parish Council, he established the Addingham Village Newsletter. He leaves the Society in a strong position for the future.

Gill Battarbee has taken over the reins. Shortly after she joined the Society in 2013 she shared the role of treasurer and later became the secretary.

Gill said: “I was delighted to be elected as the chair of Addingham Civic Society. Jim and I worked closely over the last ten years and I know only too well that he is a hard act to follow. Thanks to Jim’s hard work, we have around 400 members, a great group of trustees and lots on the agenda to keep us busy.”

The Society has very active groups which focus on Heritage, the Environment and Planning, not to mention all its social activities. As well as a full programme of monthly Speakers, Autumn and Spring Fairs and a Christmas party, the trustees are beginning to give serious thought to how the Society might play a role in Bradford City of Culture 2025. Exciting times lie ahead.
