A Level students at a top Leeds sixth form are celebrating another year of outstanding results with 36 percent of students achieving A* and A grades and 67 percent achieving A* to B.
Oliver Watkins, Director of The Sixth Form at Horsforth, said: “Knowing that the grading of this year’s A Levels has gone back to pre-pandemic levels, I honestly couldn’t be happier with our results, which are significantly higher than 2019 when 26 percent achieved A* and A. I want to offer huge congratulations to all the students who worked so hard and will now reap the benefits of that work. I also want to say a massive thank you to my amazing team of staff whose passion and dedication has empowered our students to achieve these results.”
The Sixth Form at Horsforth offers students everything they need to succeed. Last September saw the opening of the new, state-of-the-art sixth form campus, which includes IT classrooms, laboratories, a lecture theatre with bleacher seating and LED screen, as well as a large common room, with learning pods, a charging station and café. The sixth form also offers over 90 enrichment activities including debating, photography, golf and even international exchanges.
Oliver added: “Enrichment activities provide opportunities to explore new skills and interests beyond the academic curriculum, while helping students to develop their abilities and improve their overall well-being and self-esteem. They can also give students a glimpse of how some of the academic subjects they learn are put to use in the real world. We believe this is essential for shaping happy, well-rounded, successful individuals.”
The school also offers students excellent Post-18 options, be that higher education, which 83 per cent of students went on to last year, or employment or apprenticeships.
Ella Ward who achieved three A* grades in English Language, Maths and Physics, said: “I’m over the moon with my results as they have secured my place at the University of Manchester to read Physics with Astrophysics. I’ve worked hard, but have felt supported all the way, and can’t wait for what comes next”.
The new campus has increased the sixth form’s capacity and has enabled it to offer places to more students from across the city.
