Ilkley Film Society has unveiled the programme for its 54th season.
From September to June at Ilkley Playhouse (Sundays at 8pm) the society will screen 21 films from 13 different countries.
The strong and varied programme includes Oscar and BAFTA winning titles like The Banshees Of Inisherin, Aftersun and Tár, while the inclusion of films from Bolivia, Pakistan, Morocco and Bhutan takes the number of countries whose films the society has screened since its 1969 foundation to sixty-four.
Non-fiction films include Hello, Bookstore, which will be screened during the Ilkley Literature Festival, and A Bunch Of Amateurs, an inspiring and hilarious portrait of Bradford Movie Makers, one of the world's oldest amateur film-making groups. Blu-ray discs will be used wherever possible, and American (but not British) films will be screened with hard-of-hearing subtitles when available.
The season opens on September 10th with the British film Empire Of Light, starring Olivia Coleman.
Full membership for the season costs £50, with nothing more to pay. Limited membership, with admission to any 10 films, is available for £38. The society is able to accept payment by bank transfer as well as by cheque. Members can also have a complementary drink at the after-film discussion group, there will be a Christmas double bill with mince pies between the films, and the final event in June will start with wine and nibbles.
A membership application form is included in the Film Society brochure, available from the Visitor Centre in Ilkley Library and from the Clarke Foley Community Centre.
The form can also be downloaded from the society's website at www.ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk where further information about all the films will be found.
