ENTRANTS to this year's Ilkley Half Marathon totalled the highest number yet and raised an impressive amount of money for good causes.
The event, organised by Ilkley and District Round Table, saw and unprecedented 2,275 runners head for the starting line in the true spirit of community, endurance, and philanthropy.
Over £32,000 was raised for charity while records were broken during the July 16 event.
Seasoned athletes ran side by side with passionate amateurs and first-time runners.
Lawrence McCourt was first over the finish line, shattering the race record by an impressive two minutes finishing in a remarkable time of 1:07:04.
Matthew Barnacle, race director of Ilkley & District Round Table, expressed his delight at the remarkable success of the event. He said: "We are immensely proud to have organised such a fantastic event that not only promotes health and fitness but also gives back to the community. The overwhelming response from both participants and sponsors is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Round Table members and the collective spirit of the Ilkley community.
"Together, we have raised a substantial amount for charity and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on the lives of those in need."
The 'event village', situated at the heart of Ilkley, was a vibrant and bustling hub of activities that kept participants and spectators engaged throughout the day. Featuring a variety of attractions, including vendors, food stalls, live music, interactive zones for families. Three flypasts by a Royal Air Force Lancaster Bomber from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby fostered a real sense of camaraderie and celebration.
The members of Ilkley & District Round Table would like to express their gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, participants, and the wider community for their invaluable support in making this event a resounding success. The funds raised will go directly to supporting local charities, positively impacting the lives of individuals, groups and families in need.
