CAN you offer storage where an Ilkley volunteer group can store tools it is sending to Africa and UK projects?
The group has been looking for over a year to find new accommodation after it lost both its workshop and storage space in May last year.
Working with the charity Workaid, the group gathers tools and sewing machines that are no longer needed and refurbishes them for projects mainly in Africa but also for UK projects with long-term unemployed and the learning disabled.
Since 2004, 80,000 tools have been recycled this way by the group along with 400 sewing machines. They have been well supported by individuals and churches and by Morten’s Hardware store, Hartley’s Auctions and Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary.
They are still receiving donations but running out of spaces to store tools and have no place to work on them. If anyone has an unused or underused workshop or garage they are willing to share, please contact Frank McCrickard on 01943 608655 or email: thatcanyon@gmail.com
One solution is finding a plot of land on which suitable accommodation could be placed. The members have the means to acquire outbuildings to store and fettle the tools but need a site to place them.
