THIS year one of the top-ranked schools in Leeds is celebrating a very special anniversary.
Horsforth School first opened its doors in September 1972, and 50 years on it’s still going from strength to strength. To mark this great milestone, the school hosted a special celebration bringing together old faces and new to celebrate its past and future successes.
The school has seen many changes over the years, especially as it has grown and expanded to welcome ever increasing numbers of students through its doors. The original red brick building still stands, but a new, state-of-the-art sixth form campus has been built and sports facilities added. However, some things remain very much the same like the Main Hall with its unique design.
Past staff and students gathered on July 11 to reminisce, and were treated to a musical theatre medley, art and science displays from the school’s current students, tours of the school and a food and drinks reception in the new sixth form building.
With the school and sixth form achieving the highest state school GCSE and A Level results in Leeds in 2022, this was a wonderful way to top off a great academic year.
Headteacher, Dr Paul Bell, said: “We couldn’t let this date go by without recognising the school’s 50-year anniversary. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting past colleagues and students and hope that the celebration brought back some fond memories for everyone who attended. Here’s to the next 50 years!”
