Eight members at Bracken Ghyll golf club took part in a 72-hole challenge last month to raise money for Sue Ryder, which runs Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.
The ‘fairway’ fundraiser, held on June 28, forms part of the 2023 club captain’s ‘drive’ to raise vital funds for their chosen charity, which several members have had a connection with other the years.
The team of Kevin Whitaker, Carole Cox, Cath Archer, Danny Thompson, Will Stoker, Freddie Gape, Morgan and Finlay Grimshaw battled a mixed forecast of drizzle and showers throughout the day and an early start, with the first group teeing off at 4.30am.
With a major deluge towards the end of the first round, everyone got a bit wet, but spirits were not dampened, with the second round beginning at 8:10am.
After a suitable lunch break, play was resumed at 12:30pm for the third round. The 4th round was completed at 7:10pm.
“It was a long day, but the team, looked resplendent in their polo shirts and had a terrific fun day despite the mixed weather. We are proud to have contributed towards this very worthy charity. We’re thrilled that to date the team has raised just under £3,000,” shared Vice Captain, Will Stoker.
