Rawdon Model Boat Club (RMBC) is hosting their first open day of 2023 on Saturday, June 10. Club members will be displaying and operating their model ships and sailing vessels all day from 10am to 4pm. They sail every class of boat you can think of, including, trawlers, tugs, warships, cargo ships, fast electric racing boats and racing yachts.
A spokesperson said: "You will be sure of a warm welcome at our friendly clubhouse where we have a kitchen, WC’s, lots of boat storage berths and a comfortable social room. But the best view of the lake and the action is from our plentiful outdoor seating. Tea and coffee will be available. There will be boats available for all interested parties to have a go, under the guidance and instruction of the members who own the boats. There will be boats for sale too."
There has been a model boat club on Larkfield Tarn since 1937. The tarn was built in the 1820s to provide water for a nearby textile mill but is now owned by Rawdon MBC. Rawdon MBC is off Larkfield Road, Rawdon. LS19 6EQ. Entry is free and there is limited parking on site. For more information about Rawdon MBC email rmbcmembership@gmail.com
