ADDINGHAM will again be the focus of a royal celebration this weekend as the village celebrates the coronation of the King with a programme of events across three days.

It will build on the success of last year's celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

A committee of local volunteers have made the decision to revive the traditional gala (normally held in July) and merge the two events into one weekend.

Saturday is free for everyone. There will be a small charge for adults on Sunday. Children (up to 18 years old) are free all weekend.

The timing and list of events are as follows:

Friday, May 5: Coronation Songs of Praise, 7pm at St Peter's Church field, followed by bell ringing.

Saturday, May 6: Music and dancing from 5pm until 11pm at the football field at Stockinger Lane, featuring live music from two bands and food including pizza, Mexican, fish & chips and waffles. There will be a bar serving ale, lager, cider, wines and fizz as well as non alcoholic offerings.

On the afternoon of Sunday, May 7 May the gala will start at 1pm with a street procession down Main Street to the football field at Stockinger Lane where from 1.30pm to 5pm there will be fun and games.

Hay bales, tables and chairs will be available, or bring picnic rugs and enjoy the stalls, fairground rides, and inflatables as well as drinks and delicious homemade cakes in the Scout Hut. The bar will also be open and food (a barbecue, ice creams, Churros and Mexican) will be available.

There will be music and entertainment from a number of local choirs, a Swing Band and Morris Dancers.

There will also be competitions including best fancy dress (for children up to 16 years old), a themed hat competition, knobbly knees, bonny baby, and dog competitions, a fell race, tug of war and ferret racing.

On the evening of Sunday, May 7 there will be bell ringing (a quarter peal) at 5pm at St Peter’s Church.

From 5.30pm until 11pm at the football field at Stockinger Lane there will be music and dancing performed by Mark Gregory and Charlie Aky.

The bar will again be open and there will be a mobile fine wine offering and food.

Rides will need tokens, which can be purchased from the token booth on the day and are £2.50 each.

All weekend there will be an archive photo exhibition in The Scout Hut.
