OLYMPIAN Jonny Brownlee will officially open a brand new clubhouse at Bramhope Tennis Club.
The dilapidated 50-year-old tennis clubhouse in the Bramhope Conservation Area in Old Lane has recently been demolished and replaced with a modern, visually attractive structure, providing a much-needed facility that can be used in all seasons.
The club is holding a grand opening event on Saturday, April 15 from 11am, when Jonny Brownlee will open the new clubhouse. Everyone is welcome to attend.
On the day there will be free tennis with the club's resident coaches from Mitchell Tennis Coaching, refreshments and Advantage Sports pop up shop with free racket demos and special offers for everyone that attends.
Bramhope Tennis Club has over 100 adult members and over 70 junior members. Coaches, from Mitchell Tennis, provide a wide-range of adult and junior coaching, cardio tennis and holiday camps for children. The next tennis camps are being held in the Easter holidays, from April 11th-14th, 8:30am-1pm, for children aged five to 15 years old.
Funding for the new clubhouse was enabled by generous donations from many local organisations, including a CIL grant from Bramhope Parish Council, and funding from Leeds Outer North West Community Committee, The Bramhope Trust and The Bramhope Youth Development Trust. Significant infrastructure improvements were provided by Bramhope Village Hall. The club was fortunate to have the support of Studio Nest, who provide bespoke furniture and interiors throughout Yorkshire. Through their annual ‘support in the community’ scheme, they were able to design, supply and install the clubhouse kitchen.
The new clubhouse was built by Tiffany House Builders and Contractors of Skipton, with additional work completed by BMJ Professional Joinery and Building Contractors. Decorative gravel was kindly donated by Mone Bros.
The club’s chair, Heather Scurr, said she was delighted with the new clubhouse. "It provides a warm and welcoming space for members to enjoy, and is a blessing in inclement weather, when players can take shelter and relax with a cup of coffee," she said.
"Parents whose children are being coached also love it, as they can stay indoors and watch their children's lessons through the large windows. The next project for the tennis club is to refurbish the courts, and then in a few years-time they’ll need fully resurfacing. There’s always a project on the horizon. "Bramhope Tennis Club is a very friendly and sociable club and warmly welcomes new members."
