Passers by on The Grove in Ilkley on Saturday enjoyed chatting to members of Ilkley Labour Party about what they do to promote equality.
The Ilkley Labour women's group were celebrating International Women’s Day, which this year has the theme #EmbraceEquity. A spokesperson said: "Some shoppers spoke of their own involvement with the day, some were organising events at work. Others talked with pride about the progress their employers had made in promoting equality of opportunities in the workplace.
"There was concern from some about the impact of social media on attitudes to women and girls, and concern expressed about women's sense of safety. Some women spoke about making our cities safer. The power of education at home, in school and in colleges was widely recognised and hailed by young people and adults as a positive force for change. People were pleased to talk about their own contributions to creating a more equitable community in Ilkley at the same time speaking of huge inequities around the globe. The Labour Party is pleased to support International Women's Day on 8th March and nationally and locally is committed to breaking down barriers to opportunity at every stage."
