A GROUP of enthusiasts from Addingham has come together to form a new committee to recruit members to the Addingham Allotments and Gardens Association to celebrate the association’s 50th anniversary in style.

A public meeting has been arranged for Friday, March 3 at the Memorial Hall at 7pm to hear the committee’s plans first hand.

One of the first acts of the new committee has been to confirm the return of the Annual Show which will take place on August 12 and will be a showcase not just for vegetables and flowers, but also a range of arts and handicrafts.

Association chair Geoff Mills said: "At a time of changes in our climate, escalating food costs and the environmental impact of food miles there’s no better time to provide a focus on a sustainable approach to gardening, as well of course as the benefits to mental wellbeing and physical health. Combine that with the vast amount of gardening knowledge within the community we have to be on to a winning formula. We are keen to recruit as many new members as possible from our village and further afield."

Membership is available online via a new website and to commemorate the 50th anniversary the first 50 to sign up will receive a collection of seeds worth over £10 which have been very kindly donated by independent garden centre Moss & Moor.
