ILKLEY Soroptimists invited Kath Steward, one of the founding trustees of Climate Action Ilkley to talk at their most recent meeting about the ‘Library of Things’ lending library which is setting up in premises in Church Street and planning to open in early April.
Kath explained that after researching other successful libraries which lends out household items to members in other UK towns the Ilkley group decided to go ahead.
Kath said:“Using a Library of things will help us change our mindset from ‘where can I buy this item? to ‘where can I borrow it?’ We can reduce our carbon footprint by borrowing instead of buying new items.”
The Church Street premises is big enough to house a good selection of items and may also be able to provide a warm space for a friendly coffee bar or for small meetings such as U3A groups. After a lively question session from the members to Kath, the Chair, Margaret Cook, thanked Kath for coming and the meeting closed with teas and coffees.
