THE Friends of Otley East Wood group has thanked local people for their amazing support and generosity after a Crowdfunder raised over £32,000 in just two days.
But with a target of £100,000 to raise by February 14 they are calling for further donations, particularly from larger businesses or organisations.
A spokesperson from the Friends of Otley East Wood campaign said: “We want to extend a huge thank you to the community for supporting us so magnificently so far – please keep donating and sharing. We’ve got a long way to go and would encourage any organisations, businesses or individuals interested in helping us to make this happen to please get in touch!”
East Wood, known locally as Weston Woods, is popular with locals and home to a rich and diverse source of wildlife.
It is currently for sale with a guide price of £100,000.
The wood is popular with locals, with a public footpath running through it, but campaigners are concerned that in private hands this resource might be lost – the rest of the wood could be kept private or new owners could choose to fell the trees for timber.
The campaign group aims to secure the woodland and manage it for nature recovery, for the community and for future generations
