FOLLOWING discussions between Otley Town Council and Leeds City Council, Leeds have agreed to drop car parking charges in Otley for the four Saturdays before Christmas.
"This is great news," said Cllr Richard Hughes. "Leeds have accepted that in these difficult economic times dropping charges on Otley's busiest shopping day will help everyone, traders, visitors and residents."
Cllr Colin Campbell said: "Christmas can be a stressful time so shopping locally helps. Otley is one of the best centres in the area with a wide variety of shops to cater for all needs. As locals often say - if you cannot buy it in Otley, you don't need it."
"We hope the free parking will also encourage visitors to come along and share the many Christmas events in town," added Cllr Paul Carter, "and after a hard day shopping they can spend time having a coffee or a meal in one of the towns many cafes, bars and restaurants."
Come along and enjoy the Otley Christmas.
Parking charges will be suspended on Otley Car Parks on: Saturdays December 3, 10, 17 and 24.
