TWENTY-nine vehicles were subjected to checks this week in a joint police and council operation in Otley in a bid to combat illegal waste carriers.
Leeds North West Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a joint pro-active operation in the town with partners from Leeds City Council Serious Environmental Crime Team, Taxi Licensing and the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency.
The operation was aimed at combatting illegal waste being carried in vehicles as well as a recent upturn in vehicle crime in general.
A total of 29 vehicles were subjected to checks with the following results:
Vehicle seized for no trade licence, no MOT or insurance
Vehicle seized for no insurance and insecure load
Waste licence bought on site by driver
Three prohibition notices served for no waste carrier licence
Two tickets for insecure load
A driver reported for no MOT
Prohibition notice for defective exhaust
Prohibition served for evidence of smoking in the private hire vehicle
Seized for no insurance
