ILKLEY and District Riding Association held a fancy dress parade with the theme of 'Fit for a Queen' to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
There ten entries from the juniors and five from the seniors and Dan Goodey from The Nell Bank Charitable Trust chose the winners from both sections with placings to fourth.
He said: "The whole show is a fantastic event that I am delighted to be able to support. Not an easy job today, some really amazing costumes, plus some intimidating horses to get closer to than I am used to!"
The winner of the senior section was Dr Sally Hall on her 19 year old Basil. Sally was dressed as the drummer in the Household Cavalry.
She said: "Basil is 19 years old and I have owned him since he was seven. Although he enjoys jumping and hacking his main talent is for making people smile. I have combined this with my role as a children’s heart doctor to bring some joy to some of our long term patients at the Leeds congenital heart unit. Whether he is required to become a unicorn or my little pony for the day, Basil is always willing to dress up and visit the children at the hospital in exchange for a carrot or two! I was an active member of Ilkley riding club as a teenager regularly competing in the showjumping and working hunter classes. When I saw there was going to be a jubilee fancy dress parade I couldn’t resist getting Basil involved and returning to the show for this special occasion."
The winner of the junior section was 11-year-old Lexie MacDonald dressed up as Queen Victoria riding her pony Skye.
Lexie is a member but lives in Blackpool and this was only the third show she had been to.
Carol Dawson, of the association said: "It was, yet again, another wonderful tribute to our Queen and with traditional royal music playing as they paraded around the ring, we experienced another moving moment for the club! We all sang God Save the Queen and gave her three cheers!"
The full results of the Fancy Dress were Juniors: 1st Lexie MacDonald on Skye; 2nd Delilah Whitaker on Charlie; 3rd Matilda Gaskell on Bob the Cob; 4th Jack Lambert on Maxwelltown Myla
Seniors: 1st Sally Hall on Basil; 2nd Julie Pack on Rani; 3rd Lucy Longbottom on Mr Socks; joint 4th Emily Nicholas on Drybarrows Ruler and Mary Naylor on Severnvale Herewar.
The next IDRA show which should have been on Sunday, July 17 has been postponed due to the pending heat wave and ground conditions.
Carol said: "The safety of everyone and the equines is top priority.
"Sorry to disappoint everyone but we shall run the replacement show on the 2nd October. "
