On Saturday (July 2) present and former members of Otley Methodist Scout Group met in the Wesley Hall at Otley Methodist Church to celebrate the 100th birthday of the group. They were joined by parents, former leaders, and Wharfedale District Scout officials.
There were exhibitions of activities and events over the last century, refreshments and hot dogs, sketches by current members of the Scout Troop and a campfire sing song. There was also a presentation to Fred King who has completed 50 years as a leader with the Scout Movement. Two special cakes had been commissioned for the event; one to celebrate the centenary of the group and the second to celebrate Fred’s 50 years as a leader.
A most enjoyable afternoon with many people reminiscing about their time in Otley Methodist’s Scout Group.
It was also a farewell to historic Methodist Church and Wesley Hall which has been put up for sale leaving the Guide and Scout groups without a permanent meeting place.
