THE NEXT Movie Matinee screening at Otley Courthouse is the film Spencer (2021, 12A).
Showing on Thursday, June 9 at 2pm the film begins when the marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold.
A spokesperson for the Courthouse said: "Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game, but this year, things will be profoundly different.
"This film is a fictionalised account focusing on 3 days in the life of Princess Diana (Kristen Stewart who was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award) as she's trapped with a family who doesn't want her and who she dislikes. It takes inspiration from real-life events but is more interested in exploring Diana’s struggle with her mental health problems as well as the suffocation she felt amidst all the luxury of the British crown.
"There have been many versions of this story, on screen and in print, and in this version the director, Pablo Larraín, takes a daring view looking at the demons that are plaguing Diana."
Tickets cost £6. They are available on 01943 467466 (10am to 2.30pm) or online at otleycourthouse.org.uk.
