OTLEY based artist Jonathan Smith, and Wilsden based watercolourist Catherine Bartle are exhibiting from March 14 to April 23 April at Gallery At The Art Shop, Hawksworth Street, Ilkley; open from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
Jonathan is an accomplished self-taught oil painter, who specialises in landscapes of the north of England, especially the Yorkshire Dales and moors. Working in situ on sketches, then back at his studio, these and photographs taken enable Jonathan to build his pictures. Pictures which then convey the memory of time, place, weather and light observed. His work is held in private collections throughout Britain and the United States.
Catherine Bartle is a watercolour artist specialising in local and Cumbrian landscapes and animal portraits. More recent experimenting with other media, including acrylics, coloured pencils and pastels, has brought another dimension to her work.
Now retired after 40 years working for the NHS in inner city Bradford as a community nurse, midwife and health visitor. Catherine enjoys spending time on her painting, exhibiting her work and carrying out commissions.
