PERCHED on the top of Otley Chevin, The Royalty Inn is a traditional country pub with phenomenal panoramic views overlooking the vast countryside.

Sitting on land previously known as the Manor of Guiseley, the pub is thought to have been built in the 18th century and named after lords who first owned the land.

Today, it is owned by the Robert's family who took it over in 2019, alongside the Fox and Hounds in Bramhope, and ran by operations manager Andrew Howarth.

Andrew said: "We're best known for our views really. On a clear day you can see the top of York Minister because you can see so far. It's a full panoramic view. You can also see planes landing at the airport because you have a full view of the runway, so a lot of people come up to see that."

Andrew has worked in the hospitality industry for 12 years and says the best thing about his job is meeting new people. He said: "You don't get the same character that come into each business you get whoever. and just having them enjoy the pubs and enjoy your service and when they walk away with a smile on their face I know I've done my job."

He added: "It is a destination pub, people come in for the views and food, but we do have regulars that come in maybe once a week for a meet up and a gossip with a sandwich or a cup of coffee."

The extensive menu serves everything from burgers, to homemade steak pies, and roast dinners on a Sunday, with special menu gluten-free menu too.

He added: "We don;t want to go too fancy but its more than just your standard burger and chips. The steak pie is one of our best sellers, it's a full pie, not just a bit of puff pastry and everything is homemade by our two chefs."

The pub also stocks a range of beers including black sheep and Wharfedale blonde, and they're looking to stock Tim for Taylors in the future.

Andrew added that the pub is a family and dog-friendly venue with a focus on food.

One of the highlights of the year is bonfire night, where over 1000 gather to watch fireworks from the land surrounding the pub. Andrew said there are potential plans to host a carnival on the land in the future too if the correct permissions can be obtained.

In the coming weeks, the pub will be offering a special valentines menu where diners can enjoy a romantic meal for two for £55 per couple, with a three-course meal a choice of drinks.

There are also plans in the pipeline to create a new alfresco dining area outside.
