THE winners of the Duck Race organised by the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale and staged as part of the Ilkley Clean River Group Event at Riverside park and East Holmes Field on Sunday, August 29 were: winner, Don Goodman, of Roundhay (a supporter of the LS29 Group) who receives a cheque for £200; runner-up, Brian Southgate of Steeton (a member of the Ilkley Carnival organising committee) who receives a cheque for £100 and the £50 for third place shared between Les Goldman, of Menston and Jim Rogers, of Bingley both members of the Two Rivers Swing Band.
Organisers would like to thank everyone who attended and sponsored ducks. The event raised almost £2,000 which will be used to help local charities.
The organisers ensured no plastic was left in the river and all the ducks were recovered. On top of this, some of the volunteers recovered rubbish from the river during the event so the river was left cleaner than before the event started.
