STUDENTS at Ilkley Grammar School have been busy entering and claiming prizes in language competitions this week.
Kezia Finch, Flora Lee, Emily Robson, Emily Priest, Helena Carslaw and Bethy McKeefry completed their tasks in Mundo Hispano; an online competition run by York University.
In the final week the team dressed up as Argentinian gauchos as they made a final South American stop in their journey through the Spanish speaking World: Spain, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Cuba and Argentina. The girls have been sending in weekly tweets (some of them musical - Cuba Quiero Bailar la Salsa and No llores por mi Argentina) and have also carried out some creative tasks including making a shrine to Charlotte Bronte and a Mayan Calendar based on Ilkley.
The team was today, July 2, attending a presentation day at York University and are hope to come away with a prize!
Students have also been involved in the Language Perfect Competition, which attracts a worldwide audience. The competition involves over 1,000 schools and 300,000 students from around the world all earning points to learn vocabulary in foreign languages.
Hetty Shaw, Imogen Parton, Sophia Richards, Callum Gibbons, Ale Chadwick, Antonia Fern, Caitlan Rhodes, Imogen Brodaty, Esme Pearce, Harry Watson and Cameron Garner all took part with some fantastic results.
Hettie Shaw came top in the two per cent of all competitors from around the world and received a Gold certificate, Caitlan Rhodes came in the top five per cent and secured Silver, Antonia Fern came in the top ten per cent with a Bronze certificate and Sophia Richards in the top 20 per cent receiving a Credit.
