Local people have rallied round to support the launch of Churches Together in Ilkley’s new food bank.
The collection points are at Tesco’s Springs Lane store and Booths supermarket, Leeds Road.
The food collected will be distributed to local families in need as well as through the Salvation Army in Keighley.
Tesco store manager Marie Toora said: “Tesco is keen to support our local community whenever we can and we welcome the chance for local groups to reach out to our customers.”
Both supermarkets are supporting printing costs for leaflets explaining about the food bank and Tesco have supplied extra baskets.
Organisers were overwhelmed by the generosity of local people – including a trolley of food left anonymously at the entrance to the store – and have already been able to help families by distributing the produce.
Most of the local primary schools have agreed to make the food bank their harvest collection focus this autumn.
