One hundred and twenty Ilkley bikes are bound for Africa thanks to residents who responded to an appeal for unwanted bicycles.
On Saturday the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale, along with the Margaret Carey Foundation, held a collection for unwanted bikes in the central car park, Ilkley.
The generosity of local residents resulted in 120 bikes being collected.
These are now in the Margaret Carey’s depot in Keighley.
They will soon be distributed to prison workshops in the north of England where inmates will refurbish them.
Most of the repaired bikes will be sent to organisations in Africa. Some will be sent to Eastern Europe and others will remain in the UK.
