A Craven ward councillor is warning Addingham residents and other drivers of a road closure in the village which he says will cause major disruption.

Bradford Council proposes to close a part of Bolton Road to all traffic to enable workers to strengthen and replace a 105-metre-long retaining wall.

The road will be closed to traffic during the construction period which is due to begin on Monday, September 30, and is expected to last for 12 weeks.

This will mean that traffic will have to use Chapel Street, North Street and Bark Lane in order to get from Main Street to Addingham Primary School.

Adrian Naylor (Ind, Craven) said: “I am concerned that this work is due to start very soon. I have spoken to Bradford and have asked for all residents affected and the primary school to be contacted as soon as possible.

“I also spoke to the headmistress of Addingham Primary School, Hilary Gallacher, so that she could include the information in the weekly newsletter for parents.

“This is going to cause major disruption for Addingham for the next three months in the run-up to Christmas and I want to ensure that people have as much notice as possible.”

John Anderson, principal engineer for Bradford Council, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for the inconvenience these works will cause.

“The retaining wall supporting Bolton Road above Town Beck has reached the end of its useful life. It is essential to carry out reconstruction work to make sure it remains safe for road users.

“It is necessary for us to close the road while we carry out this work, because it is very close to the wall and narrow at this point.

“Pedestrian access along Bolton Road will remain open and a diversion for vehicles will be in place via Main Street, Church Street, North Street and Bark Lane.”
