An Ilkley woman and her dad are set to climb Ben Nevis to raise £2,000 for Dogs for the Disabled.

Jo Alexander, who works as an editorial manager for a publishing company, plans to do the trek on Saturday, October 5 and will have just eight hours to complete the challenge.

To give her moral support, her dad Stuart Alexander is tagging along with her all the way from his home in Oxfordshire in a bid to bring in much-needed funds for the charity which trains dogs to assist people with disabilities.

Miss Alexander, 30, has been involved with the charity for a number of years including giving a holiday home to one of its bio-detection dogs between its training.

“It’s amazing work these dogs do. The bio-detection dogs who assist people with severe diabetes can tell just by sniffing their breath or licking their fingers if their insulin levels are putting them in danger. If they are at a dangerous level they trot off, get the medication and put it in the person’s lap. That’s why I’m raising the money for them!

“They help give back independence to some people with disabilities – they can be life-changing.”
