Motorists are being warned to avoid Otley Bridge while Yorkshire Water work to fix a burst water main.
The pipe, under the B6451 Billams Hill and very close to the north side of the bridge, burst earlier today, Tuesday, September 3.
Yorkshire Water has installed temporary traffic lights to allow repair work to take place, which has led to queueing traffic both ways on Bridge Street, beteween Courthouse Street and Billams Hill.
Traffic is also building up on other town centre streets.
A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: "Following a burst on a water main under Billams Hill, Otley, very close to the bridge across the River Wharfe, it has been necessary to operate two-way traffic lights whilst we carry out the repair.
"We recognise that this is a very busy stretch of road and we're workinghard to complete the repair and return the road back to normal.
"We'd like to thank road users for their patience in the meantime and advisethem to try and avoid the route if at all possible for the next 24 hours."
