A second piece of life-saving equipment has been handed over to the community of Addingham following a collection held at the funeral of a villager.

People gave generously to Addingham Responders and Heartstart at the recent funeral service of much-loved member or the community, Tony Gaunt.

Mr Gaunt’s family nominated the cause as beneficiary of the collection, which raised a total of £1,500 – fully funding a new defibrillator for the recently-revamped football pavilion and new scout hut, off Stockinger Lane, plus part-funding another defibrillator, to be handed over to The Craven Heifer pub shortly.

A defibrillator is a life-saving machine that gives the heart an electric shock in some cases of cardiac arrest, and can save lives.

Among those who spoke at the official handover on Saturday was ward councillor, Michael Kelly (Con, Craven) – who used himself as a living example of the value of defibrillators.

Coun Kelly told the gathering how he was resuscitated successfully at Leeds-Bradford International Airport earlier this year due to the immediate availability of equipment and skills. He expressed satisfaction that such resources are becoming more available throughout local communities.
