If both sides had taken their chances in this game the final results would have been something resembling a cricket score.

That it wasn’t was due to some profligate finishing.

Despite the muddy cond- itions and foul weather Otley Town started really against one of their bogey teams.

Playing entertaining foot- ball they could easily have been two up within 20 minutes.

Instead they found them- selves one down courtesy of a wonder strike by Glyn Hurst Field attacked on the left and from the resulting cross Jamie Simms powered a clearing header some 35 yards from goal.

Unfortunately the Town midfield was slow to respond and Hurst with no challenge forthcoming controlled and smacked the ball home. Town responded well and following a sweet move on the right Josh Waite missed a good chance.

Next up Sam Jewell, making a welcome return, fired in a great drive which looked like a goal only for the shot to crash against the crossbar.

Scott Cater was the next to try his luck but his low drive was well saved.

It wasn’t all Town because Field possess a forward line keeper Graham Fawell had to make an outstanding block to keep the score at 1-0.

Town started the second half well on top and playing probably their best football of the season.

The Field defence was under siege and Si Arm- strong, having an excellent game, might have done better when he miscued a shot when set-up by Rob Carr. Fortun- ately the miss wasn’t too damaging because the equaliser soon arrived.It came from Scott Norton after two goalline clearances by the Field defence.

This was much-deserved equaliser for Town but sadly it wasn’t to last very long.

The old adage that you at your most vulnerable just after you have scored was proven once again.

Town when Field broke from their own half. A fine driven pass pierced Otley’s right flank allowing the Field left winger to ghost in and score.

This was a bad goal to concede and it took Otley another 15 minutes to come to terms with the situation.

During this spell, Field dominated and could so easily have scored a couple more.

Town had another great chance when Scott Cater shaved the far post with a drive and Fields could have made sure when their right winger broke clear.

It looked like being another nail biter for Town when in a final flourish they got their just deserts.

Again it was a melee in the Field goalmouth, this time, Tom Walker, in the thick of it, was on hand to smash the ball home to earn a point.
