Stephen Morrell November 20th, 2023
When I first became a Parish Councillor in Sutton-In-Craven more or less 30 years ago, I recall Ken being a forceful voice amongst the members as he was already a member not only of the Parish Council but also a member of Crave District Council, (CDC). My recollection was that he was extremely supportive and friendly at that time. One years on and I was invited by Ken and his fellow CDC member Stephen Place to consider accepting a nomination at the next AGM to become Chairman. When I asked why they wanted to nominate me, they said words to the effect of, "You seem to know what you are talking about!" I duly accepted their offer and became Chairman, a post I have held for the most part of the past 30 years. Throughout that time Ken gave me 100% support in my civic duties in terms of advice and help. Eventually through ill health he handed over the responsibility of supporting our residents on CDC, and I was pleased to support his nomination as Alderman as one of my first duties in that post. I also worked alongside him as a Governor of Sutton-In-Craven Community primary whilst he held the post of Chairman of Governors. I know he loved and cherished that post, and the school was much blessed from his keen support. A shining beacon for us all. RIP Ken
