Big things are on the horizon for The Dunwell Brothers Band who launch their double A-sided single on Tuesday.
The band is made up not just of the terrifically talented Dunwell brothers Dave and Joe but also Yeadon drummer/vocalist Jonny Lamb, Dave Hanson (guitar/vocals) and Lee Dawson (electric bass/vocals).
All have knocked around the local music scene for years but have been crafted together in a band of awesome promise by Yeadon-based record produced Dave Creffield.
Creffield has vast experience in the music industry and knows talent when he sees it. He has been involved with much of the Kaiser Chiefs work and indeed the Dunwell Brothers Band recorded their debut single Goodbye Elizabeth/I want To Be in the Huddersfield recording studio owned by Kaiser Chief Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines.
Although the Dunwell’s talent as singers and musicians is well-known throughout the Leeds and Bradford areas and in particular at The Station pub in Guiseley, where they have hosted open mic nights and played on a regular basis, it is only since Creffield took an interest in their work that things have started moving in a new direction.
Jonny Lamb is a multi-talented musician proficient on drums and guitar and with an excellent voice but until Creffield’s intervention he was perhaps lacking direction in the use of his talents.
Now we see a much more disciplined musician and that can only be good for all of us.
Lamb and Dave Dunwell go back many years being in a local band named Draco in their early teens.
They performed at an open air gig in Nunroyd Park at Yeadon back then and even in those early days the beautiful harmonies prevalent in their work now were showing seeds of growth.
Creffield added Lee Dawson and Dave Hanson to make up the new band and since then work has gone on apace.
They have gigged wideley around Yorkshire with York, Leeds and Huddersfield prime targets and have stepped this up more latterly as release date gets near.
They describe themselves as an acoustic/chillout/country rock band but in truth they can play anything.
Dave Dunwell is multi-talented playing guitar, piano, harmonica and has occasionally been known to get behind the drums and play bongoes as well.
The amazing voice of Joe Dunwell should not detract from the vocal qualities of the rest of the band, all of whom sing with real quality and their harmonies make the hairs stand up on the back of one’s neck.
They truly are that good and soon the whole world will know what a small section of the Leeds area has known for a long time.
The lads have had recent exposure on BBC Radio Leeds and have recorded for a spot on YTV’s Calendar.
They are the band everyone is talking about at the moment.
They chose Seven Artspace, a new theatre in Chapel Allerton, as the venue for their single launch on December 22 but that night very quickly sold out and they had to book the venue out for a second night.
They are also due to do a mini launch at The Station in Guiseley on Sunday, December 27.
Much of their time recently has been spent in the studio and rehearsal rooms as they are also preparing an album for release.
Creffield has added a string section for some of the numbers and things are on an altogether more professional level.
This is a band that not just plays the music but truly feels the music Check them out on their website www.thedunwellbrothersband.co.uk. They are also on Facebook and Myspace with some live tracks on youtube.
The single will be on the Papa Creff record label.
p Leeds band the Shakinouts have a big date at the Leeds O2 Academy on Tuesday when they will be supporting Shed Seven.
The band will also have an EP out early in the New Year with six songs on it. It will be available on all download sites and in a few shops as well.
Their Yeadon-based singer Jamie Williamson said: “It is all very exciting.
The Shed Seven gig is at the Academy and we are equally terrified and excited to be playing to nearly 3,000 people at what is our biggest ever indoor show.”
Shakinouts played at Party In The Park at Temple Newsam last summer and have regularly gigged the big Leeds venues like The Cockpit.
Yeadon band South View Juniors are another who have recently released a single and their offering Factory is now available for download on I Tunes.
