WITH National Walking month just around the corner, you need look no further than Grassington Festival’s programme of Guided Walks for inspiration. There are seven walks on offer, all bookable via the Festival Box Office. Find out about Lead Mining on Grassington Moor, or learn about Grassington’s Heritage Trail with guides from the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Appreciate and enjoy the abundance of local fauna and flora in the species rich hay meadows found around Grassington with guides from the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. There is also a glorious moorland walk topped and tailed with breakfast and an early evening meal at the award winning Fountaine Inn at Linton.
For the more adventurous, and in keeping with this year’s festival theme of ‘convergence’, there are two very unique walks available to book, which offer participants a chance to celebrate the merging of art and nature. Acclaimed saxophonist, Snake Davis is hosting his own walk which will showcase musical experimentation at its very best, as Snake will bring his saxophone along and promises to take his musical cues and inspiration from nature.
The Grassington Rainbow Challenge is another new walk, tailor made for families. Those taking part on this four mile walk through beautiful countryside will pass through seven different colour stations showering them with colour powder. T-shirt and sunglasses are provided as part of the ticket price, and the walk will culminate with a colour party – including music, fun powder throws and food, drink and a very colourful party atmosphere.
Tickets and information about all the walks including length and suitability for dogs is available at www.grassington-festival.org.uk or telephone 01756 752691.
