MARVEL comic illustrator Adi Granov and Apprentice winner Mark Wright will bring their expertise to a unique and free event in Ilkley.
The Digital Ilkley event will feature speakers and activities at the Kings Hall and Winter Gardens on Tuesday, November 1.
In the morning Adi Granov will be one of the judges of a competition for year six children in local primary schools to create a digital game. The budding technicians have been challenged to design and present a game to be used by year one. The winning class will be rewarded with a session at Clip n Climb.
The afternoon will feature a Digital Careers Fair for sixth formers and year 11. Mark Wright will be opening the event and sharing his thoughts on being an entrepreneur and on working with Lord Sugar. Entrepreneur Steve Pearce will cover the pitfalls of building an App commercially.
Mark said: "I am so pleased to be supporting Digital Ilkley. Building a business and working with Lord Sugar has provided me with considerable insight that I would love to share. This event is a great opportunity to learn about the real challenges of business and I hope to see many 6th formers, who will be able to benefit from it. With the right attitude, knowledge and commitment it could be them who hear the special words, 'You’re hired'."
Bradford Council IT and speakers covering issues such as helping women into cyber roles and Digital Forensics are expected to make the event a fascinating one for those considering future careers. In the evening sessions starting at 5.30pm there will be a range of speakers from the police, industry and others with tips on how to stay safe online.
The array of presentations and activities will be supported by stalls in the Winter Gardens. The team is grateful for the sponsors, aql® , Virtual College, Ilkley BNI and Court Computers as well as a grant from Ilkley Council.
Organiser Stuart Hyde said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to see, hear and engage in a range of activities and learn about our digital world. Many of the speakers are coming from afar and will bring some reality to the myths about our digital world as well as helping people to appreciate many of the benefits."
The event is free to attend. Visit www.digitalilkley.com to pre-book.
